To keep track of your family health history, check out the free online My Family Health Portrait tool from the Surgeon General. After you enter your personal health data and that of your selected family members, the tool creates a family tree diagram and a medical table of family diseases and conditions. You can print these out and share them with your family and health care providers. You can also update the information as needed if you save your history to your computer or other storage device.
Many health problems run in families, so tracking the illnesses of your blood relatives can help you and your health care team identify your risks and take steps to keep you and your family healthy. The information in your family history file remains private: The tool only provides the software for organizing your health information and does not allow the government (or anyone else) to download or access the information in any way.
